My morning smoothie today was: A frozen banana (seriously freezing them is a game changer and it makes the texture of your smoothie so much better), large handful of strawberries, semi skimmed milk plus a scoop of PES cake pop protein powder. Approx 400kcal and 32g of protein.
Post-surgery I’ve been struggling with my appetite. When recovering (from illness or injury) you don’t really want to be in a calorie deficit as you want your body to be working maximally to heal and feel better. You also don’t want any deficiencies from micronutrients – which you’re more likely to have when eating less.
As my lack of appetite has meant I’m eating less I’m doing the opposite of what I’d usually do when dieting. Try and boost the calories per meal (here milk instead of water, and banana is a more nutrient dense food than most fruit). I’m also trying to be mindful of protein and keep my levels high.
What’s your go to morning smoothie recipe?
