How did I end up here

Well, you start to want to know more about a topic, then you end up falling way down into the rabbit hole! A few years later, you’re still doing your day job, but through this (somewhat expensive!) hobby, have picked up a lot of knowledge, and a few qualifications along the way:

  • Personal Trainer Qualification Level 2 and Level 3
  • MNU Certified Nutritionist Passed with Distinction
  • EIQ Nutrition Graduate

How it started...

From wanting to improve my own personal nutrition and fitness, while supporting my rehab from a long term injury.

Which led to...

Meeting an amazing community of nutrition and fitness professionals off and online, to learning and develop together.

Currently I'm...

Continuing to learn from people in this field, and sharing information here on my blog that may help or interest other people.

How this blog started

Why is it so hard to find the answers to basic questions about nutrition? Sadly, when it comes to diet and exercise, it’s a minefield trying to figure out the good information from the bad. This was where I found myself, not knowing who to listen to, or who had a hidden agenda. Fast forward a few year, and a few qualifications gained, and here we are.

Everybody eats, but that doesn’t mean everyone is qualified to offer advice!

That brings us back to why I started down this particular rabbit hole! We’ve all be suckered in to one fad diet or another, and tried plans that make unrealistic promises and are totally unsustainable. The aim of this blog is to break down nutritional topics and areas, with practical advice and information that comes from current research and experience.

My name’s Jo, and I’m passionate about nutrition and fitness. After being very active when I was younger, I spent most of my twenties dealing with a long term injury and chronic pain. But after going back to physio and starting a new rehab program, I wanted to make other changes to feel better and improve my overall health. This started with one little change, then another, then another, before the progress really began to get me towards where I felt happier and healthier. I’m someone who has struggled, someone who has had days when I wanted to give up. I’m not someone who has always been fit, or shredded, or never struggled with their diet, and I know how hard it is to change.

Finding a great coach made a huge impact to my progress, and being a details person who always wants to learn more, this pushed me into pursuing courses and finding who to trust online. I’m now an MNU Certified Nutritionist (which I passed with distinction), a graduate of EIQ Nutrition and also an Active IQ qualified Level 2 Fitness Instructor with a Level 3 Diploma in Personal Training. I keep up to date on newer studies through research reviews and podcasts from trusted people in this industry.

I hope people continue to question and think about who to actually listen to. For example don’t take nutritional or training advice from celebrities with no qualifications! Replace the people peddling pseudoscience with those who have integrity and provide quality information. I hope you find what I post useful and it helps you cut through the nonsense from people trying to make a fast couple of quid, rather than actually help you.
