Another module in the books. Honestly, I can’t believe how fast the course is flying by, and only one more to go! Also I’m super annoyed at that one red dot. But shouldn’t complain with 99% I guess.
This module has been on clinical populations, and probably the most challenging, but also the most interesting so far. The course is so well designed in how they start us off with the basics, then build up from there. This was all about how the fundamentals we have learnt can be applied to people in specific circumstances.
Alongside that, as we cover some medical conditions/diseases, it’s made really clear where our scope of practice does (and more importantly doesn’t!) lie. That balance of wanting to help people, yet understanding that you can’t overreach and step past what this certification qualifies us to offer advice on, is regularly reinforced.
My favourite lectures were on the elderly, and eating disorders (EDs). The former I think most people will have been touched by with older relatives, friends or neighbours. Being able to help with healthy ageing and improve the quality of life for an ever increasing older population is an area I’d love to delve further into.
Then ED’s was a guest lecture by Ursula Philpott who was fantastic. Such a complex topic. Spotting the signs early can be crucial for treatment, and we need to be able to see that to refer on to a specialist. As a practitioner being aware of this, and also how dieting and restriction can be the start of disordered eating, is really important to think about.
As we now near exams the community with the other people on the course has been amazing. The support and help they give, as well as the MNU tutors, is just next level.
